Blitzen’s Best Christmas

Claire O’Malley is a children’s author from South Mayo and a retired primary school teacher whose lifelong love of storytelling continues to inspire young readers across Ireland.

She is the author of four heartwarming books, each filled with imagination, friendship, and gentle life lessons. Her much-loved story Blitzen was translated into Irish as Blitzen, Laoch na Nollag and is available in all traditional bookshops. The tale also came to life on stage as a Christmas play in Clonbur, where it was met with great success during its festive launch.

Claire’s third book, The Seagull, captured hearts throughout Mayo and beyond, delighting children who eagerly return to its pages night after night. Sam’s Baking Adventure has inspired many young boys and girls to get active and believe that GAA success is possible, despite the heartbreak Mayo has faced over the years. Sam has grown up in England; his father is Irish, from The Neale, and has promised to bring him home to The Neale to see the grave of his grandfather, who played full back for The Neale, if Mayo win

Her most recent work, Ezra and Mr. Jim, is a poignant story about a young boy’s discovery of art and the unlikely friendship that opens his world.

Claire’s books are known for their touching, uplifting stories and their beautiful local artistry. Illustrated by David Bog and Denis Finan, each book pairs lyrical storytelling with stunning visuals that readers treasure as much as the tales themselves.

When she’s not writing, Claire loves to travel, visit museums, and wander through bookshops, always stopping to explore the children’s section, where new inspiration often strikes.
