Coffee and a Jammie Dodger – The Life of Tommy O’Gorman
Philip Magnier
Newryman Tommy O’Gorman is a fascinating individual who has experienced the depths and the heights in life.
An orphan by 15 he survived homelessness, dyslexia, minimal education, OCD, and being fired from all employment to achieve phenomenal financial success as an investor and businessman.
He’s also given back to the community with free talks to young offenders in Northern Irish prisons and Q&A sessions with eager business people.
His best friend and business partner is a young man who spent two and a half years in prison as a teenager. Forty two years separate them in age but quite soon after meeting they formed a company together with a 50:50 share of profits, and no formal contract.
The Nationwide RTE program described him in 2015: “Tommy O’Gorman is a self-made man and one of his companies sold some time ago for well over a billion euro…. A County Down man. He is one of the country’s most successful businessmen and has made a fortune through investments.”

The Irish Times: Tommy O’Gorman is one “of the North’s most discrete business successes.” “…his love of buying and selling made him a natural when it came to … the stock market and, when gold took his fancy as a flutter, his Midas touch struck and appears to have stuck with him.“
