Siobhán Maher is an Irish photopoet, photographer, complementary therapist, and Doctor of Food Science whose work brings together nature, healing, and mindful awareness. Raised on Montpelier Hill in Dublin, she spent her childhood roaming forest paths, riding horses, and writing her first poems beneath the trees that shaped her lifelong connection with the natural world.

Despite dyslexia and years of unexplained health challenges, Siobhán pursued science with determination, earning a Higher National Diploma and degree from Aberystwyth University, a Master’s degree from the University of Aberdeen, and a PhD in Food Science and Technology from University College Cork in 2004. Her scientific career included research, product development, and technical work within the food manufacturing industry.

Living with fibromyalgia eventually led her beyond the laboratory and into a deeper exploration of healing. Through kinesiology, meditation, mindfulness, and breathwork, she discovered practical ways to live well with pain while restoring balance and resilience.

Today her work brings together photography, poetry, and contemplative practice. Through her photopoetry and books on mindful living, Siobhán invites readers to slow down, reconnect with nature, and rediscover the steadying power of breath and awareness.

When you head out into nature, there are moments of pure joy, wonder and transcendence. It takes us away from our everyday concerns and brings us fresh perspective. Somehow Siobhán has managed to capture that magic of a walk in nature in book form. It is full of stunning photographs which convey a sense of awe and beauty, as well as poetry that echoes the images and brings reflection, slow contemplation and a return to being instead of doing. If you are seeking a gentle return to the joy of nature and the present moment, this book will be greatly rewarding!

There’s something quietly powerful about Dawning: Photopoetry To Revive Your Soul that catches you off guard.

I picked this up expecting a pleasant mix of photography and poetry, but what I found was something far more immersive. Siobhán Maher has created a work that doesn’t just sit on the page – it lingers. Each image feels like a moment suspended in time, and the accompanying words don’t compete with the visuals, they deepen them.

The sunrise imagery throughout is particularly striking. There’s a warmth to it, yes, but also a sense of reflection – even healing. It’s not overly sentimental, which I appreciated. Instead, the tone is calm, grounded, and quietly hopeful.

What stands out most is the balance. The poetry is accessible without being simplistic, thoughtful without trying too hard. It invites you to pause rather than rush on, which feels increasingly rare these days.

This is the kind of book you don’t read once and shelve. You return to it – on a quiet morning, or when you need a bit of stillness.

A genuinely uplifting, beautifully put-together collection.

    Highly recommended.
