Have You Heard of Lady Bird?

(7 customer reviews)
@ Emer Murray

Suitable for children aged 2-8 years old.

The woodland’s birds are disappearing, but no one knows why…
Can their kindly leader Lady Bird save the day, or will she suffer the same fate as her feathered friends?

This charming rhyming picture book will bring a smile to both child and adult alike as they laugh at its silliness but are also reminded of the important message not to judge by appearances.

Emer is a Mam and author living in Dublin. Having written stories and poems since a young age and worked in the legal sector for 10 years, she delved into the magical world of children's picture books inspired by the endless imagination of her young son. Emer is passionate about preserving and cultivating the special place that literature holds in children’s lives. She has seen first-hand how instrumental it is for children in terms of cognitive and mental development, understanding the world around them and instilling a love of language and art. Aside from creating magical worlds for children as they snuggle up for a story at bedtime, she is passionate about bringing these worlds to life through local events and real-life engagement such as dramatised readings to further encourage a love of reading, particularly considering the ever-increasing prevalence of passive screen-based entertainment. Emer also endeavours to make her stories entertaining for the adult reader.

Emer’s debut is a charming, poem-like tale, full of rhythm, alliteration, and playful wildlife. It thoughtfully explores ecology and curiosity, as a ladybird questions her own identity. With delightful humour—like a bird nail bar—and a redeemed weasel, the story ends heartwarmingly. A creative and beautifully illustrated start to a promising writing career.
My grandchildren will be very excited to read this I’m sure 📕 well done Emer bravo 👏

A delightful children’s storyline told with rhyme and rhythm, as well as alliteration and onomatopoeia. Admirably, more poem-like than prose. Beautifully illustrated and full of wildlife. Based on sound environmental and ecological themes. It even poses the question: Is the ladybird a bird, and can it fly? All ends well and even the wicked weasel redeems himself in the end. There is good humour throughout. Good links are established between the animal and real world. A case in point is the delightful, image of a modern nail bar where birds keep their claws shiny, sharp and trim. What a great start to Emer’s creative writing career!
