Deirdre McCarthy, MSocSc, BSW (Hons), is a CORU-registered Social Worker, professional coach, lecturer, author and founder of Family3: Coaching, Consultancy and Education. With more than a decade of experience supporting children and families, Deirdre’s professional background includes child protection and welfare social work, foster care, family support, research, teaching and child-centred court work. She is committed to ensuring that children are listened to, treated with dignity and supported to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives. Deirdre has conducted national research for Tusla – the Child and Family Agency – and has lectured in trauma-informed care at University College Cork. Her work brings together social work practice, trauma-informed care, children’s rights, coaching and education. She is the creator of The Bród Method® Framework, a child-centred and trauma-informed approach designed to help children, families and professionals feel happy, healthy, safe and loved while navigating change, loss and other significant life experiences. Deirdre’s first children’s book, It’s Not Fair: Bród’s Journey Through Their Parents’ Break-Up, supports children experiencing parental separation and divorce. Through the character of Bród, the book helps children understand difficult changes, recognise and express their feelings, and know that their voice matters. Her forthcoming book, I Wasn’t Ready to Say Goodbye: Bród’s Journey with sadness explores the death of a beloved pet and supports children as they experience sadness, grief, loss and remembrance. Deirdre’s books are created and printed in Ireland, supporting Irish illustrators, printers and small businesses. Her writing is grounded in professional experience, empathy and a belief that every child deserves to feel heard, understood and supported.
