Honor Harlow is in her twilight years. As she looks back, she realises her life has not been the nice, quiet, predictable one she had envisaged she would live in her hometown. Life took her out of her familiar comfort zone and threw her into the world where sometimes she managed to go with the flow and other times had to battle against the wild waves. Life broke her more than once, but each time, she picked up the pieces and patched herself back together. Honor writes about what she knows best – emotions. She takes us into other people's hearts and souls. Her characters are not stick-figure from a romantic novel or dare-devils from an adventure story but real-life people. They go through life loving and hating, crying and laughing, living and dying. We watch them, enjoying their antics as they go about their normal lives. An Evening with Honor Harlow Saturday 15th April – 7.45 pm - at the Secret Kingdoms Honor Harlow was born in a small town on the west coast of Ireland. She grew up there, steeped in Celtic lore, customs and superstitions. Many spoke a mixture of Irish and English, using the Irish syntax. Honor will tell us where words such as `buddy’ came from and why the Australian say ´Good on ya.´ Honor`s characters speak mostly Hibernian-English in her series, Buried Deep In Shallow Ground, which takes place in Ireland of the 1960´s. She writes historical novels based on true events, such as the discovery of 796 babies’ bodies in an Irish Mother & Baby Home with neither burial records nor marked graves. Her first novel, The Silent Children, tells the story of a town of secrets. What lies below the surface of this typical Irish town in the west of Ireland? Mary Arlene Blake, a native of the town, is the little girl who introduces us to the town and its people. We will stay by her side as she goes from an innocent, little girl to an adult, and reluctantly accepts that what lies beneath her feet is anything but wholesome.
