As an Agony Aunt I have dipped into my own life to help others with problems and challenges. In my memoir I share my experiences from the tragic deaths of my parents and two of my brothers when a tree fell on their car in a storm to a successful ratio career interviewing people who inspired me. I also worked as a reporter and I document those coping with challenging situations. To struggle forward is key to getting the most out life even when you feel overwhelmed.

Heard Maura speak with Joe just before Christmas and ordered book that day. Arrived in post 2 days later. Finished book in 4 sessions. As an avid reader, I really enjoyed how Maura wove together each chapter with ease as She takes the reader thru her life’s ups and downs that so many of us can relate to. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a gentle and calming read!

Leaving To Go Home, a memoir by former teacher and radio presenter, Maura O’Neill, is a profoundly moving and life affirming work. The early chapters describe in vivid detail the joy of a close knit family that ends in unimaginable tragedy, loss and lifelong grief.
The raw honesty which the author demonstrates throughout the book reminded me of Nuala O’Faoláin’s “Are You Somebody”.
Leaving To Go Home is a story of resilience over many years. The author ultimately finds joy again with her very own close knit family.

I came across Maura on tik toc and started to follow her as she has a very calming voice and gives wonderful inspirational thoughts. I then went on to read her book. Although her story is tragic it is very well written and her life after and how she copes is inspirational. I normally pass on books once I have them read but have decided to keep this one. Thanks Maura for sharing your story with us. Claire
