Remembering Me
Remembering Me
by Ruby Eyre
A story set in WWII that follows brave women that nursed through the war. It tells the story of the sisterly bond formed between the nurses and how this bond carried them through their lives.
This is a bond that is rarely talked about in history, yet it is important that we remember it and recognise it.
‘Remembering Me’ takes you on a journey of Lucy’s life. From the first page, Lucy is remembering faces and memories of her long life and through old photographs she tells her story. With her lifelong friend and fellow nurse, Lilian, Lucy recalls her nursing days and WWII while also recalling old memories and secrets that have been locked away for over 50 years.
Lucy tells her brave tale to her daughter and granddaughter, but will they be able to accept this new image of Lucy after they hear her story? Will they be able to hear the family secrets that have been locked away for over half a century?

To say this make has turned a non-reader (me) into a reader is an understatement. I never used to like reading but this amazing book had me feeling all sorts of emotions, happiness, sadness, laughter etc. It really was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I could not put this book down. Whether you are like me and you don’t like reader or you’re a regular reader. This book is a MUST read. Thank you Ruby for sharing your talent. This novel mostly set in WW2 shows in much detail the lives of nurses during this difficult time. Lucy sharing her story reminded me of Rose in Titanic who told her own story about the ship. The flicking from present to past with Lucy and her daughter, granddaughter and Lucy’s friend, Lillian, is a tale of how we really don’t know the people we share our life with.

A heartfelt story set during the Second World War. The characters are believable and convey the close bonds built between nurses in the midst of great suffering and death. Reading this book the words : “Lest we forget,” kept cropping up in my head from “Recessional.” by Rudyard Kipling. Ultimately, with the world teetering on the edge of a Third World War, this is a timely novel because we must not for one second take for granted the peaceful times which many of us in the Western World enjoy.
