Tara: Inside Out – 15 Years with the Black Sheep of Yoga
Kieran Dowling
What happens when someone raised in the rural Ireland immerses themselves fully in an Eastern spiritual path, in London?
In TARA: Inside Out, Kieran Dowling reflects on fifteen years immersed in a tantric yoga tradition, offering a personal account of what it means to live these teachings over time. Discovering the world of yoga and tantra across the sea, his journey explores the a very different approach to discipline, spirituality, and self-development that what he was brought up with.
Moving beyond the idea of yoga as a physical practice, the book looks at a broader system that includes service, relationships, creativity, and inner transformation. Through lived experience rather than theory, it traces how these practices can take root in everyday life, and how they gradually reshape one’s perspective.
Thoughtful and reflective, this is a book about commitment, integration, and the long arc of personal transformation—told from the inside, and grounded in the realities of walking an Eastern spiritual path in a modern Western context.

Wow. I thought I knew yoga, but my knowledge was very limited. This book provided an eye-opening overview of all the different types of yoga I had never heard of: Karma Yoga, Laya Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Adhyatma yoga… The author’s personal anecdotes and use of case studies brings the theory to life. A very interesting read.
