THE NOVEL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA: The story behind NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN
Bryan Tyrrell
How was a James Bond film starring Sean Connery made without the participation of EON Productions Limited? Is Never Say Never Again just a straightforward remake of Thunderball? Should it be branded as “unofficial”? Is it even a real Bond film? What were the legal issues involved and how did these affect the quality and feel of the movie? How valuable was Jack Schwartzman’s input on the picture? What was Kevin McClory’s role in the history of the James Bond phenomena and why was he unable to launch his own 007 movie franchise? Was his Warhead project ever viable? THE NOVEL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA reappraises Never Say Never Again, tracing its development from the original Thunderball project to the finished film in 1983. PAPERBACK – 92 pages (book designed by Aidan J Collins).

I love this book! It is invaluable to any 007 fan who loves Never Say Never Again as the immensely fun adventure film that it is and is fascinated by the machinations that led to it’s release. My only complaint is that I finished this book wanting more. Bryan Tyrrell has done a great service for the Bond fan community. A massive thank you, also, to the Bond Geek YouTube channel, who’s review brought this book to my attention.
