After a career in the public service and later in international development with Catholic missionaries and serving as Chairperson of the Board of Misean Cara, Matt Moran turned to writing as a hobby in retirement. He published The Legacy of Irish Missionaries Lives On in 2016 exploring how the development and humanitarian work commenced and undertaken for decades in the Global South by the Irish is being continued and expanded by local religious and indigenous missionaries in those territories. Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, wrote the Foreword to the book which was launched by Senator Rónán Mullen. In 2022, he published The Theology of Integral Human Development exploring the role of faith in international development and in public affairs in Ireland. The Foreword to the book was written by Dr David Begg, former CEO of Concern Worldwide and Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Social Sciences at Maynooth University. It was launched by Carol Nolan TD, Vice-Chair of the All-Party Oireachtas Life & Dignity Group, David Begg, and Professor Fáinche Ryan, Director of the Loyola Institute at TCD, Dublin. He is currently undertaking research for a book on The Cultural Colonisation of Africa by the West. He contributes articles on religious and social affairs and international development to a number of online channels in Ireland, the U.K, and Asia
