Denny Mulvihill

Denny Mulvihill was born on 10 November 1945 in County Limerick and grew up in the village of Shanagolden, West Limerick — a place immortalised in the Sean McCarthy song of the same name.

As a young man, Denny worked as a mechanic servicing heavy plant machinery with several companies, including Cunnane’s Forklifts in Foynes, Floyd Engineering, and the famous ‘Green Murphy’ in London. He also spent time abroad, working with Amey Roadstone Construction in Nigeria and Global Suhaimi in Saudi Arabia.

After retirement, Denny joined his wife, Mary Theresa, in running her family’s funeral business, Kelly’s Undertakers. Together, they continued the proud family legacy of providing an invaluable service to the local community in Athea, County Limerick.

Outside of work, Denny is an avid cyclist and has completed numerous charity cycles for worthy causes. Never one to shy away from a challenge, these include cycling the length of Ireland from Mizen to Malin, which he has undertaken eight times for both the Aislinn Addiction Centre, in Kilkenny, and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. He has climbed Croagh Patrick numerous times, including three times in a single day for the Aislinn Centre and cycled from Athea to Dublin and back again in support of renovations to Athea parish church.

Denny lives in Athea village with his wife, Mary Theresa and they have five children.

The Bike, the Bog & the Graveyard is his first book.
