Hazel Mulqueen

Hazel is a retired primary school teacher. She enjoyed a long and happy career dedicated to the education of young children. Originally from Co Limerick she moved to Dublin where she raised two boys with her husband Paul.

Returning to be with extended family in their home place is a common experience for many families in Ireland. Hazel is keenly aware of how enriching this is for children, feeding in to a deeper sense of identity and belonging. Engaging with extended family and the richness of Irish culture are important to her. These are central themes in this book.

In recent years Co Kerry has found a special place in her heart. The beauty of the landscape and the community’s celebration of Halloween traditions inspired her to write Howl at Halloween – Áine goes to Kenmare.
