Where The Faeries Dwell: Shortlisted for the 2023 Carousel Aware Prize

@ Mary Flora

This is a compilation of short stories based on the tales my grandmother told me as a child about the interactions between the human folks and the Sidhe, the Faery folk. I have encompassed the colourful threads of her stories and woven them into my own tapestry. Granny believed in the Sidhe and firmly instilled that belief in me. They walk beside us. They mingle with us. If we acknowledge their presence with respect, they will support us. For those who choose to believe, they are closer than you think.

Seller Bio

Sold by: M. R. Flora
Mary is a retired midwife and began to write these stories for her daughters to preserve the legacy of her grandmothers lore. However, the project gathered momentum and instead of putting the stories into a folder, she had them published into this beautiful book through the Northern Standard in Monaghan. Demand for the book was extraordinary in the lead up to Christmas in Monaghan town which took the author by complete surprise. She has received such wonderful feed back from readers in how the stories resonated with them. It has brought the Sidhe back to life in the memories of those who had forgotten them. The authors wish is for people to enjoy the stories, to relax into them and go back to a time where the oral traditions around the hearth fires kept these stories alive.

Where the faeries dwell is a beautifully written book which captures the mystic of years gone by.I passed it on to my 90 year old mum who has early stage dementia, it is very much of an era when she was a child abd it resonates with her own life experiences. She was totally engrossed it it abd is currently re-reading it fir a second time.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves myth and magic, and definitely those of an older genre.Looking forward to more from this talented lady.

I loved reading “Where the Faeries Dwell”as I strongly believe in the faeries..Mary’s Granny seemed to be a great character.I would love to have met her .The stories she told were amazing, especially Trevor & Margaret’s.story and baby Firtha and the keeper of the lough. Although these stories are fictional, I can’t help thinking somewhere these things really did happen. It was such an enjoyable read.
