Our ‘We are Mayo’ book was written very much with the worldwide Mayo diaspora in mind.

Sean Rice and I sought to produce a high quality photographic and written record of our beautiful county. We wanted to produce an outstanding coffee-table style book that would demand a special place in every Mayo home as well as in libraries, offices, waiting rooms, nursing homes and hospitals throughout the county and throughout the island of Ireland. Our hope is that local Mayo people as well as visitors to our county will want to share its contents with their friends and relations all around the globe.

The design of the book followed a simple formula dealing with our unique geographic location in the world, our history, our infrastructure, our people and places, our sporting and other legends both young and old – all brought together by the great accident of our birth or choice of residence in our unique and beautiful county on the west coast of Ireland.

Our hope is that for many years to come “We are Mayo’s’ unique photographic images will form part of a treasured family heirloom, acknowledged and admired by all who come to read it. The generously provided photographic images have enhanced the quality of the book in a manner that our written words could never hope to achieve.
