Orwin and Sebana- An Art Book

@ Kim Gaffney

This unique artbook created by artist Kim Gaffney marries a 17th Century legend, a 19th century poem and 21st century art to awaken the story of Orwin and Sebana, Cavan and Meath’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

This art book includes a foreword by the acclaimed writer and speaker Michael Harding, an authors introduction into the process and journey this quest has taken her on, and extracts of Phil O’Connell’s poem alongside the artists paintings. It is a book to enjoy and to ponder, to stop and reflect, and be transported back to the time and the legend of Orwin and Sebana.

Kim Gaffney began research in January 2023 to unearth and awaken the legend of Orwin and Sebana based on Lough Sheelin, in the 1600’s near where the artist grew up. Kim created paintings influenced by their story and the places associated with it. She also used a beautiful poem written by local poet Phil O Connell as inspiration for her paintings.

The 60 page book is a piece of art in itself with a selection of 20 artworks by the artist. It comes as a deluxe first edition, thread sewn with a wibalin case and printed dust cover.

I’m delighted that a love story from ancient times has been recovered, and celebrated in this book, I hope the book brings you the reader, great pleasure, and opens windows of wonder for you, and reminds you of the mythic power of love that is enfolded in the rippling waters of that loveliest of lakes – Lough Sheelin. “ Michael Harding
