The Folktale of Maeve O’Reagan

@ Nita Ní Giolla Phóil

The Folktale of Maeve O’Reagan is a story of three children, Richard, Michelle and Majella, living in a rural village in the midlands of Ireland, and they call to see their elderly neighbours, Mary and Jim Brennan. The story dives into the community spirit between the young and the elderly of yesteryear.

Mary takes the children on a magical journey of Irelands past, where she nourishes their imagination and inquisitiveness with folklore of fairies and other worlds.

Nita Ní Gíolla Phóil is from Portarlington, working as a Home Carer for many years before taking up a full-time career in Child Care over 10 years ago. What inspired me to write the book? As a child I used to play all the time in the local woodlands and these happy child-hood memories have last a lifetime.  As the years have passed I now go walking in Derryounce Lakes & Trails and also in Emo Park and woodlands along with my best friend, Ninja my four legged companion. It is during my walks with my best friend, where I stop and look at the forest animals and birds, as they go about their daily business.
