‘An American in Dublin 1916’ is a novel with accurate chronological historical events. Dr Henrietta Modi knows a lot about Irish history from her schoolteacher in Wisconsin, Sister Mary Costello. Irish history remains a huge interest when she leaves school to study medicine in the University of Chicago. Some years after graduation, Henrietta travels to Ireland where during the 1916 Rising she meets Dr James Hogarth an Irish Volunteer. Together they become involved in the struggle for Irish independence. They have an unlikely ally, George Bernard Shaw. He sets up a meeting with Edward Carson.
